A Burrowing Owl appeared in the area of the Red River Valley area of North Dakota, much to the surprise of the nature lovers there. While this is not a state, record, it was a pleasant surprise. In the past, Burrowing Owls were quite common in North Dakota, especially in the western areas, but now thier numbers have declined significantly. Like Florida, they are a species of special concern.
