Hoot, written by Carl Hiaasen is about a group of teens who save the Burrowing
Owl from the construction of a pancake house. Several members of Cape Coral Friends of
Wildlife were in the preliminary take of the movie, but unfortunately were edited out in the
final version. |

If you are interested in learning about birds in general, The Sibley Guide to
Birds is one of the most comprehensive books of it's kind on the market. It isn't a great
book to take out in the field, but as a reference book, it is the best. |

Buffy The Burrowing Owls was written by Betty Gilbert a former resident of Cape Coral who
spent many hours photographing her beloved owls.
The book chronicles the life of a Burrowing Owl living here in the Cape. It has been added to
the recommended reading list for Florida students by First Lady Ann Scott.
